Causerie

Hey everyone,
Last week we had planned to do our "causerie" for the mothers of the CREN. They have causeries almost every week I believe about different subjects and they give information to the mothers. For our internship with the University, they ask us to try and give at least one. We were prepared to give it last week on Wednesday but it was pouring rain (here when it rains everything stops. People stay indoors, don't go to work til it stops raining) so there were hardly any mothers at the CREN. We decided to post-pone it to this week on Wednesday again... and when we got up Wednesday morning it was pouring rain AGAIN! So then we post-poned it to the following morning (yesterday thursday the 9th) and it was sunny!!
We had made a pamphlet for the mothers about our subject (Bien manger pour bien grandir) and we discussed the importance of nutrition versus growth and developpement. We had asked one of the nuns in charge at the CREN to translate into Moore (the local language since most mothers don't speak French) and she had agreed! So there we are, all four of us standing in front of all these mothers and their babies, and this lady, who is also one of the people in charge of the CREN (she is doing a PhD in nutrition), starts speaking to the mothers directly in Moore and does our whole presentation (reading off the pamphlet and explaining!! See picture below). So we stood there for 20 minutes standing and smiling (secretely in shock because we were suppose to speak....) until she asked us if we wanted to add anything !! (how can you add something when you don't understand what is being said.... on your behalf!). Sigh, it was something we hadn't planned.... But anyways the important part is that the mothers understood and hopefully they will retain a little of the information we gave out on the pamphlet.... Most of the mothers seemed interested, even though most had to breast-feed or inject food (gavage par le tube naso-gastrique, see picture below) during the presentation.... :)
