Hello all
I'm a little late in my blog! Anywho, last Saturday was my 22nd birthday and it was also the 25th birthday of Sylvie, the professeur Simpore's niece! Again, for those that haven' followed my blog, the Simpore family is kinda like the mafia, they own so many things, buildings, companies, bars, etc you are bound to run into them at everystreet corner (where of course they oblige you to get into their chauffeur's car where he will drive you where you wanna go because to them we are unable to walk safely anywhere!) that what happens when you are friends with the rich folks of the city! Anywho, that also means that Sylvie and my birthday bash was probably not the average typical african party.... many people showed up (including a few for me which are Professeur Simpore's students that we've met and hung out a bit since our arrival) and all of the Simpore family of course! It was held at Bywell (which is the name of the Maquis, which is the African version of a resto-bar) which is also owned by one of the Simpore! So many tables filled with Africans, and one table or white canadian girls! Of course there was live music, a little african band and even a dancer performing stunts with big bowls! They handed out many drinks (sodas, beer and wine.... I still do not know who paid for all of this!) and then I had to go with Sylvie to place the candles on our cake (my name was on it!!!) and then we brought our own cake to the table (all of this before eating the main course!!) and then, the guy of the band introduced a singer which sang us a song and then he anounced we had to make a speech!! OMG i was NOT prepared for that haha. So there I stood, with the microphone in my hands thanking all the Burkinabe people in the room for being there and for welcoming us into their country (everyone cheered and I probably was bright red...) . After the speech they sang us happy birthday and we blew out the candles. Then the food was served ( many services, very good food) and then we went onto the dance floor to dance to african and also occassionally very old american songs until like 2 am.... (the cake still had not been eaten hahabut they gave me half to take home with me, as if I would eat half a cake to myself lol). Then we finally got a ride home under the pouring rain (which they say is a good sign, the rain means our evening was blessed cause rain here is a GOOOOOOD Thing especially with the heat! It cools down a considerable amount after a downpour). So we feel asleep and got up at twelve the next morning. A nice way to turn 22 :)
